Soft shell goodness

Keep your eyes peeled for fresh soft shell shrimp at the market! Soft shell shrimp are a delicacy here in New Orleans and are rather hard to come across. Our very own fisherwoman, Kay of Four Winds Seafood, has been spotted with these beauties at the Saturday Market.

The soft shell crustaceans are harvested at the peak of their molting phase - just like blue crabs - while they are nice and soft. Fry them up, and just like you might guess, you can eat the whole thing - even the head! Grab them when you see them, they will be gone soon!

Okra, Corn, and the Eat Local Challenge

The rumors are true - okra is back! You may have seen it sneaking into the market the past couple weeks. The popular Louisiana vegetable grows best in full sunlight making it perfect for our hot summer climate. Get ready to enjoy it all summer long!

Pick of the weekCorn and Memorial Day Weekend go together like red beans and rice or shrimp and grits. They’re better together! Gather your corn and grill it up this weekend to kick off the holiday weekend.

The 2017 Eat Local Challenge officially begins June 1st! Challenge yourself to eat foods only grown, caught, or raised within 200 miles of New Orleans. Participants will get discounts from our vendors all month long! Register for the challenge at nolalocavore.org or at our Saturday market.
