Crescent City Farmers Market Hosts July 4-Alarm Feast

Saturday July 4th, the Crescent City Farmers Market Heats Up with NOFD Captain Mike Gowland at the Grill & Cools Off with Free Locally Grown Watermelon

The Crescent City Farmers Market hosts a July 4-Alarm Feast Saturday, July 4th from 8am-12noon at its Saturday morning rain or shine location, 700 Magazine Street, at the corner of Girod, featuring special guests from the New Orleans Fire Department. Firefighters will be on hand from 8:30-10:30am to show curious market shoppers young and old how all the bells and whistles on their shiny red truck work while local one-man (red, white and) blues band 19th Street Red fills the market with music. At 10:30am, NOFD Captain and grill master Mike Gowland heats things up when he tosses fresh, locally grown vegetables and Louisiana shrimp on the grill for a summer pasta salad, free for market shoppers while it lasts, along with free locally grown watermelon all morning long.
And which is hotter – the new Crescent City Farmers Market Cookbook or the 2009 “New Orleans Fire Fighters Look Hot” calendar? Both will be available for purchase at the market, along with all the locally grown fixings for the perfect 4th of July cookout. Think vegetable kabobs, smoked sausage and burgers, corn on the cob, Creole tomato salad, blueberry and/or peach cobber, and of course, watermelon.
