Fresh Item of the Week

fresh item of the week

Many new year's resolutions just induce a beginning of the year frenzy, followed by months of guilt. This year, resolve to shop at the market, ensuring you eat both locally and healthfully! Shopping directly with farmers and fishers is not only a great way to support your local economy, it's also a way to connect with your food system and community. We at CCFM resolve to make this year at our markets the best yet!

Tuesday Market, January 10, 2012 | 9 am - 1 pm

Uptown New Orleans | 200 Broadway Street at the River

With the BSC championship tonight, we're planning to eat purple and gold food this week! Purple radicchio, beets, red Russian kale or turnips gets your purple, while any sort of citrus is perfect for gold. And sweet potatoes aren't too much of a stretch! A salad of beets and blood oranges is a great, healthy way to celebrate LSU's incredible season.

We loved having Beaucoup Juice under the GPS tent last week. This week they return with more juices, salads and sandwiches including the Revival Panini (Swiss cheese, Creole mustard, caramelized onions and mushrooms), Spinach Salad (spinach, toasted walnuts, bleu cheese, bacon, pomegranate, apple, house-made honey dijon vinaigrette) and the Hulk agua fresca (cucumber/lime/mint). What a healthy start to the day!

Thursday Market, January 12, 2012 | 3 pm - 7 pm

Mid-City New Orleans | 3700 Orleans Avenue at the Bayou

With Carnival season upon us, king cakes are everywhere! Forte Grove's Galette des Rois, a traditional French king cake is a specialty item during the Mardi Gras season. This delicate puff pastry has a house-made almond filling. The larger galette contains the traditional porcelain feve depicting the characters of the Nativity. Both are available for special order to be picked up at the Thursday market. Just call 225-687-3026 or email by Tuesday, 5pm. Also, keep an eye out for details about a visit from Andrew Zimmerman and Poppy Tooker to our Thursday market January 26!

Saturday Market, Janaury 14, 2012 | 8 am - 12 noon

Downtown New Orleans | 700 Magazine Street at Girod

Saturday market has seen the return of the tomato! Tad Ledet's beautiful cherry tomatoes are the perfect winter treat! Purple, gold and red tomatoes add color and flavor to any meal, so be sure to stock up for your weekend suppers.

Recipe of the Week

In keeping with our purple and gold theme (we love our Bama fan shoppers, but we do live in Louisiana), Dante's Kitchen Chef Eman Loubier's recipe for Wonder Hash uses both beets and purple sticky rice, making it perfect for game day! We suggest doubling, if not tripling the recipe.
