Fresh Item of the Week

fresh item of the week

Nur's Mediterranean Kitchen has started selling ghee at both our Tuesday and Saturday CCFM locations, and shoppers are loving it. What is ghee? Ghee is clarified (in Nur's case, local!) butter, which is made by heating butter until it becomes a golden liquid. The secret to its health benefits is that the coagulated lactose and other milk solids are removed in the process. Ghee contains fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K. Its high smoking point makes it an excellent cooking oil. Pick up a jar this week: $6 for 8oz.

Tuesday Market, February 14, 2012 | CLOSED

Uptown New Orleans | 200 Broadway Street at the River

The CCFM will be closed this Tuesday for Mardi Gras. See everyone next Tuesday for some most likely much needed fresh fruit and veggies.

Pam, our Hot Tamale Mama, will be back next week for her final appearance of the month under the GPS tent. Love her tamales and can't wait til next Tuesday? Stop by our Thursday market to pick up some that are packed ready to heat and serve.

Thursday Market, February 23, 2012 | 3 pm - 7 pm

Mid-City New Orleans | 3700 Orleans Avenue at the Bayou

It's not too late to sign up for our lenten Community Supported Fisheries program! This Thursday is the first day for pick up, but you can still sign up for 6 shares (each enough for dinner for two) of fresh, locally-caught seafood from either Pete & Clara's Seafood or Four Winds Seafood for pick up at the CCFM during Lent for only $100. More information is available on our CCFM website.

Saturday Market, February 24, 2012 | 8 am - 12 noon

Downtown New Orleans | 700 Magazine Street at Girod

Recover from Mardi Gras with fresh produce and lean, healthy meat from the market. We know plenty of folks must be exhausted and ready for something fresh and healthy. We sure are! We've been loving the brussels sprouts from the Core's. Brussels sprouts can help lower cholesterol and have been proven to be a cancer preventative. Saute or steam them for a powerful, healthy punch. We love to pair them with a roasted chicken from Bayou Farms and an arugula salad from the Monica's. Easy, healthy and oh so tasty!

Recipe of the Week

It's brussels sprout season! Get to the market early on this week and pick up a few baskets from Jim & Gladys Core before they're all gone. One of our favorite ways to serve these little beauties is in this super quick and simple Shaved Brussel Sprout Salad.
