Fresh Item of the Week

fresh item of the week

Our Lenten Community Supported Fisheries program kicked off this past Thursday, but it's not too late to sign up! Subscriptions (six shares, each enough for dinner for two, for $100) are available from either Kay Brandhurst of Four Winds Seafood at our Tuesday or Saturday market, or Clara Gerica of Pete & Clara's Seafood at our Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday market. Stop by Kay or Clara's table to sign up at the market, or to purchase a subscription online, visit our CCFM website. Need recipe ideas? Ask Paul Arceneaux for all sorts of delicious ideas for incorporating his pestos into local seafood dishes.

Tuesday Market, February 28, 2012 | 9 am - 1 pm

Uptown New Orleans | 200 Broadway Street at the River

We were closed last Tuesday for Mardi Gras, but we're happy to be back Uptown this week with some special treats. Cajun Grain will be at the market with their aromatic brown jasmine rice, rice grits and rice flour. Mississippi Natural Products will be there with shiitake mushrooms. And for dessert, Francis Chauvin will be back with her freshly baked pies.

green plate special

Join us for the last week of Hot Tamale Mama's month under the Green Plate Special Tent. Because they were so popular her first week, Pam Warner is bringing back her tamales (beef or eggplant-portabella), cheese grits, black bean & corn salsa, and homemade vanilla-almond custard. Starting in March, Hot Tamale Mama products will be available at both our Tuesday and Thursday markets. You can also find Pam at this year's New Orleans Road Food Festival March 24th-25th. For information on Pam's weekly offerings, be sure to sign up for her newsletter.

Thursday Market, March 1, 2012 | 3 pm - 7 pm

Mid-City New Orleans | 3700 Orleans Avenue at the Bayou

As we move towards Spring, more and more produce is available at our Thursday market. Vintage Garden has expanded their produce selection with everything from luscious greens like dinosaur kale to fresh turmeric and ginger. We've also spotted edible flowers, lettuces and fennel on Bartlett Farm's table, multiple varieties of strawberries from Johndale Farm, late season citrus varieties from A & K Citrus, and yellow, red and cherry tomatoes from Barry Barrileaux.

Saturday Market, March 3, 2012 | 8 am - 12 noon

Downtown New Orleans | 700 Magazine Street at Girod

We're celebrating the start of Spring by planting seedlings for Marketeers to take home this Saturday. Come ready to get your hands just a little dirty. If your child (under age 14) is not already a member of our free Marketeers Club, pick up a registration form at the Welcome Tent of any of our three weekly markets, or download one here.

Recipe of the Week

Jim Core's Kale Jambalaya is one of our favorite ways to eat this sturdy green, which is an excellent source of vitamins K, A and C. Stop by for a bunch this Tuesday or Saturday.
