The first day of Spring came and went March 20th bringing the beginning of early spring vegetables and the tapering off of winter crops. We're seeing spicy spring onions, sweet green garlic, tender young fava beans, plus plenty of sweet potatoes, cabbage, carrots and greens. Take advantage of this intersection of winter and spring crops to get your fill of the local bounty.

Last week, Chef Shane of Fat Hen Grocery wowed us with his BBQ turkey sandwiches, potato salad and more. This week we look forward to whole hog sandwiches, the return of that delicious potato salad and strawberry lemonade. Stop by to get a taste of what Fat Hen Grocery has to offer during their last week under the Green Plate Special Tent.

Clara and Chris Gerica of Pete & Clara's Seafood have been loading us up with fresh caught local seafood in our Crescent City Supported Fisheries shares. Last week the share for Thursday market pick-up was 2 lbs of whole shrimp and a half pound for fresh drum fillets. The Gerica family still has plenty of seafood available for those not participating in our Lenten CSF. Stop by our Thursday market to get the very freshest catch for Friday lenten suppers.

Get your weekend off to a delicious start by visiting our Saturday market for everything from fresh cut flowers to pastured meats to locally made preserves, breads and seasonal fruits and vegetables. We're there rain or shine. Our Saturday market is extra special because we have the option to set up inside the adjacent garage in inclement weather. Spring brings showers, so keep this in mind if you drive by the corner of Magazine and Girod on a Saturday morning and we seem to be missing. We're just inside!

Market Umbrella is an independent nonprofit 501(c)(3), based in New Orleans, whose mission is to cultivate the field of public markets for public good. Market Umbrella has operated the Crescent City Farmers Markets (CCFM) since 1995.

The Crescent City Farmers Market operates weekly year-round in four New Orleans neighborhoods. The CCFM hosts nearly 80 local small farmers, fishers and food producers, and more than 100,000 shoppers annually.
