Fresh Item of the Week

fresh item of the week

Our second Crescent City Supported Fisheries subscription recently ended. We loved seeing the joy on shoppers' faces when they picked up their shares each week, and hearing about what they cooked. Many thanks to everyone who participated. We know the Brandhurst and Gerica fishing families loved bringing CSF subscribers their freshest catch each week. Though our Lenten CSF subscription is over, you can always get fresh, local seafood from Four Winds Seafood and Pete & Clara's Seafood at the CCFM. Stay tuned for information on upcoming CSF subscriptions!

Tuesday Market, April 17, 2012 | 9 am - 1 pm

Uptown New Orleans | 200 Broadway Street at the River

We're crazy about pie here at the Crescent City Farmers Market! This Tuesday, Ms Chauvin, a.k.a. "the Pie Lady," will have fresh strawberry pie available at our market. With such great weather, a slice of pie on the porch sounds like the perfect way to end a long work day. Need something for dinner beforehand? Grab some of Jeannie Fonseca's crawfish tails and throw together a quick étouffée for a spring meal to rave about.

green plate special

Leave the brown bag at home this Tuesday and splurge on lunch by Gabrielle's at The Uptowner. Over the past few weeks, Chefs Greg and Mary Sonnier have treated us to dishes like spiced black bean soup, gumbo z'herbes, fajita chicken salad, smoked pulled pork sandwiches and a whole host of sweets. We're anxiously awaiting their Tuesday morning market arrival to see what delicious treats they'll have under the GPS tent.

Thursday Market, April 19, 2012 | 3 pm - 7 pm

Mid-City New Orleans | 3700 Orleans Avenue at the Bayou

We're happy to report that Nur's Mediterranean Kitchen is back at our Thursday market. Hummus, stuffed grape leaves and tabouli are ready to grab and go for a quick, healthy snack or dinner. Did you know that Nur's family also has a pizza restaurant on Magazine Street near our Saturday market, Magazine Pizza? Stop by one day for some great pizza and that delicious hummus we all love!

Saturday Market, April 21, 2012 | 8 am - 12 noon

Downtown New Orleans | 700 Magazine Street at Girod

Some egg-citing news for Saturday market shoppers! Donald Keller of Bayou Farm now has eggs to help fill the ever-growing demand for this farm fresh product. Donald also has beautiful pastured whole chickens (often including heritage breed birds) and cuts. Come by, grab some and no longer worry about which came first!

Recipe of the Week

This recipe for Shrimp & Chicken Clemenceau comes from one of our most beloved heroes, Chef Leah Chase of Dooky Chase Restaurant. It's a great way to enjoy both fresh local poultry and local seafood from the market!
