Fresh Item of the Week

fresh item of the week

Yes, we have no bananas, but... Shoppers have been asking and we have been listening. We're currently working on a pilot program in partnership with the Louisiana Department of Agriculture & Forestry to get Louisiana-grown bananas in the hands of hungry shoppers. Do you have a small farm or an urban garden where you'd like to grow bananas? We're still looking for a few growers to give this a try with us. If you're interested, or know someone who might be, contact Elisa Munoz at Be on the lookout for updates on this project, including when locally-grown bananas will make their debut at the CCFM.

Tuesday Market, May 1, 2012 | 9 am - 1 pm

Uptown New Orleans | 200 Broadway Street at the River

Shoppers may have noticed school groups at our Tuesday market the past few weeks. We're happy to welcome these members of New Orleans' next generation of healthy eaters to the CCFM to learn more about Louisiana-grown crops like strawberries and blueberries. During classroom visits by staff and visits to the CCFM, students learn about the people, places and products in our local food system, readying them for years of farmers market shopping and healthy eating.

Domenica is back under the GPS tent, which means we'll all be eating especially well the month of May! Chef (and Community Advisory Team member) Alon Shaya kicks things off this Tuesday with garganelli pasta with pork shoulder bolognese and kale, whole roasted head of cauliflower with whipped feta, bruschetta with ricotta, wild blackberries, basil and honey, strawberry crostada, and peach, blueberry, basil and mint aqua fresca.

Thursday Market, May 3, 2012 | 3 pm - 7 pm

Mid-City New Orleans | 3700 Orleans Avenue at the Bayou

Mid-City is hoppin' this time of the year. Those waiting until the weekend to hit Jazz Fest, stop by the Mid-City CCFM. As usual, we'll be at the American Can Apartments from 3-7pm with a dazzling array of fresh food, including some great grab-and-go items for an action packed weekend, and salad fixings. Trust us. You'll be happy to have those in the fridge after a few days of festing.

Saturday Market, May 5, 2012 | 8 am - 12 noon

Downtown New Orleans | 700 Magazine Street at Girod

Kids, come on down to the market this Saturday for a fun activity and help get the grocery shopping done. We'll have Marketeer Field Guides on hand. If your little one doesn't have one of these farmers market focused activity books already, this is a great time to get one. We love cultivating the next generation of market shoppers, and healthy eaters!
