Fresh Item of the Week

fresh item of the week

There's always an early rush of shoppers looking for eggs at all three of our markets - and we completely understand why. Farm fresh eggs are tastier, healthier and prettier. With their sun gold yolks and colored shells, these eggs are as beautiful as they are delicious. We now have more eggs than ever at our markets. They can be purchased from Ryals Rocking R Dairy, Progress Milk Barn, Bartlett Farm, Lucy Capdeboscq, Isabel Mendez, Mauthe's Dairy and Vintage Garden Kitchen, but they still go fast. Pick up a dozen this week and taste the difference for yourself.

Tuesday Market, May 8, 2012 | 9 am - 1 pm

Uptown New Orleans | 200 Broadway Street at the River

Now that Jazz Fest is over, we suspect there are a lot if empty fridges out there either because folks spent the weekend eating at the Fest, or because their guests ate them out of house and home. Come restock this Tuesday. We'll have locally raised goat, pork, lamb, beef and chicken, and tons of veggies - zucchini, yellow squash, tomatoes and even artichokes! There are also plenty of strawberries and blueberries at the market right now. Need ideas for dinner? Search our recipe database.

After wowing us last week, Domenica is back with another equally impressive menu: grilled spring onion, romanesco and goat cheese bruschetta, grilled shrimp with fresh corn, fava bean and cherry tomato salad, chicken liver and onion frittata, buttermilk chocolate cupcakes with blackberries, and peach, blueberry, basil and mint aqua fresca. Swing by the market this Tuesday and pick up lunch, or dinner!

Thursday Market, May 10, 2012 | 3 pm - 7 pm

Mid-City New Orleans | 3700 Orleans Avenue at the Bayou

Can't make our Uptown Tuesday morning market? Come see us in Mid-City Thursday night after work. Restock your fridge, pick up a bottle of wine at our neighbor in the American Can Apartments, Cork & Bottle, and visit another one of our neighbors, the Mid-City Library, located at the opposite end of the building. Stop in before 7pm. We hear they have a great cookbook selection!

Saturday Market, May 12, 2012 | 8 am - 12 noon

Downtown New Orleans | 700 Magazine Street at Girod

Mother's Day is this Sunday, and we know moms love fresh flowers! Stop by our Saturday market for a stunning bouquet from either Lucy Capdeboscq of Cap's Flower & Vegetable Farm or Shirley Randon of White Oaks Farm. Or, if your mom is more the brunch type, surprise her with a farm fresh spread. Keep reading for a delicious first course recipe.
