Pick of the WeekCreole Tomato Festival

The Crescent City Farmers Drive-Thru Market in partnership with the Creole Tomato Festival will take place Saturday, June 13 at Crescent Park’s Rusty Rainbow and Sunday, June 14 at Parkway Bakery from 8 am – 12pm both dates.

Market Umbrella is excited to (virtually!) participate in the annual Creole Tomato Festival! We’ll host a pop-up farmers market featuring local vendors and their homegrown Creole tomatoes, among other local summer crops and baked goods and other treats featuring creole tomatoes on Saturday, June 13th, and will be the official pick up point for creole tomatoes at our Sunday Parkway Drive-Thru Market on the 14th. Festival attendees can view the ripe offerings and order beginning Monday, June 8 through Friday, June 12 through the What’sGood Online Marketplace.

Creole tomatoes have ignored the news, and are doing their usual thing, in abundance. Come join us and pick up your tomatoes to slice, sauce, and can to save the season. Whether you believe that “Creole” tomatoes are any tomato grown in Louisiana or that a true “Creole” tomato must be grown in the rich alluvial soil of the River Parishes (no bias here, wink wink), we can all agree there is nothing better than a tomato sandwich made with a sun-ripened, juicy tomato!

Pick of the WeekCCFM Drive-Thru Markets

Keep on drivin’ on! We now have two weekly Drive Thru Markets – Sundays at Parkway Bakery and Tavern and Wednesdays at Bucktown Harbor. Drive Thru markets are different than traditional markets, but not complicated:

  1. Order and pay in advance (with debit/credit or SNAP). You must place an order in advance to shop at these markets.
  2. We’ll email you a placard to print and fill out with your name and the vendors who you’ve shopped from to place in your windshield the day of market (this helps us expedite your visit once at market)
  3. Arrive and drive through the market and the vendor will place your order in your trunk
  4. Repeat as needed!

When you arrive, staff will guide you to enter the market, make sure your placard is complete and in your windshield, and help you pop your trunk if needed.

All vendors will be wearing face masks, sanitizing hands between customers, and respecting social distancing guidelines. There will not be product displayed for purchase – the market is only for orders to be picked up. Find more information and how to volunteer here!

Please note: Market was closed yesterday due to Cristobal. If you ordered for that market, your order will be available at the Bucktown Market this Wednesday from 8 – noon unless you opt-out by midnight tonight by emailing support@sourcewhatsgood.com.

Pick of the WeekThank you for your support on GiveNOLA Day!

Thank you so much to everyone who joined us in supporting our partners Liberty’s Kitchen and Grow Dat Youth Farm on GiveNOLA Day last week. Thanks in part to your support, they were both able to exceed their fundraising goals for the day! Your gifts will help them as they work to right the wrongs of racism in our food supply and engage young people of color in food work in meaningful ways.

And to those of you who made gifts to Market Umbrella on this day as well, you have our deepest gratitude. Your generous donations will fund our operations so that we may continue connecting local food producers with area residents and support food access programs like Market Match. In response to the pandemic, Market Umbrella has worked to ensure that our shoppers and vendors remain as safe as possible by leveraging community partnerships to create new systems for food distribution during these trying times. Your support is crucial to maintaining these new operations, including our home delivery boxes, drive-thru markets, and the Feed the Second Line initiative. Your gifts will help us continue these important activities, support our vendors, and fuel our path forward – we couldn’t do it without you!

Pick of the WeekCCFM Box @ Top Box Foods

Due to delays caused by the storm, the CCFM Top Box will be delivered on Wednesday this week instead of Tuesday. If you ordered the box for delivery this week, Top Box Foods will reach out to you about this if they have not already. If the $40 CCFM box was too much good stuff for your household size, we’ve introduced a new smaller box. More appropriate for a week’s worth of produce for a 2-3 person household, there’s now a $25 box available. The small box contains ~8 mostly produce items from local growers. The large box contains all of those items, plus 3-4 more. Order Tuesday through Friday from our partners Top Box Foods Louisiana for delivery (see map for range details) or pick up at Liberty’s Kitchen. For the pick-up option, you can select “Liberty’s Kitchen” as the delivery date and pick it up from 3 pm – 6 pm on Tuesday the following week. As always, both size boxes qualify for purchase through our Market Match program for SNAP benefit users, doubling your buying power and cutting the price in half! Choose “pay at pickup” and Top Box will contact you directly to process your SNAP payment and apply your dollar for dollar match.

Follow us on social media (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter) for updates. When you get your box, tag us in a pic of all the great dishes you make with it – we love new recipes!
