Fresh Item of the Week

fresh item of the week

Thank you to everyone who came out for our 2012 market token unveiling last Saturday. We were thrilled to welcome Eula Mae Doré’s family and members of the McIlhenny family to the market to honor such a spirited, inspirational woman. Our new Eula Mae tokens are now in circulation, so be sure to come purchase some this week. A big thank you also to our Groupon Grassroots supporters. Through your generous support, $420 was raised, which will go directly to summer programming for our Marketeers Club. Marketeer kids' activities are offered the first Saturday of every month (which means this Saturday!). If your child is not signed up, stop by the welcome tent and let’s make that happen!

Tuesday Market, May 29, 2012 | 9 am - 1 pm

Uptown New Orleans | 200 Broadway Street at the River

Our Tuesday market is overflowing with beautiful flowers! White Oak Farms, Cap’s Flower & Vegetable Farm and Bartlett Farm all have bright, sunny flowers from asters to zinnias! Spruce up your table or surprise someone in your life with a bouquet of buds this week. Want some flowers for your garden? Mizell Farms has beautiful ornamental and edible plants. Brighten up your life with flowers!

A huge thank you to Chef Alon Shaya and his team at Domenica for all the amazing food they’ve prepared for us this month. On their final menu: Monica’s vegetable shakshouka with farm eggs and garlic grilled ciabatta, hand-rolled cavatelli pasta with almonds, Mauthe’s cream and Bill Ryals’ pork shoulder, sweet corn custard with Pete & Clara’s pickled shrimp and spring onion salad, Chilton County peach torta with blueberries and salted caramel, and honeydew aqua fresca.

Thursday Market, May 31, 2012 | 3 pm - 7 pm

Mid-City New Orleans | 3700 Orleans Avenue at the Bayou

Are the peach people here? This time of the year we get this question a lot at the welcome tent, and the answer is yes! Look for our Chilton County peach and plum vendor Durham Produce next to the welcome booth at the front of our Thursday market - the side closest to PJ’s and Cork & Bottle.

Saturday Market, June 1, 2012 | 8 am - 12 noon

Downtown New Orleans | 700 Magazine Street at Girod

The first Saturday of the month means Marketeers activities at CCFM. Today also kicks off the 2012 Eat Local Challenge. In celebration of this month-long commitment eating locally, we're preparing an all local minted fruit salad with the kids and learning about all the benefits of eating delicious Louisiana-grown berries. Bring your child to the market for a fun, educational morning!

Recipe of the Week

When softshell crab season comes around, we can't help but incorporate them into every meal. This Softshell Eggs Benedict, a fun twist on the classic dish, is a decadent way to start the day. For instructions on how to clean softshell crabs, ask your favorite market seafood vendor, or use this easy guide. We of course also recommend using farm eggs and artisan bread from the market.
