“Yes, we have no bananas!” This is a phrase often overheard at the market, but not for long we hope! Thanks to a USDA Specialty Crop Block Grant awarded to the Crescent City Farmers Market, Louisiana farmers are now growing five different type of bananas. Join us this Saturday as we kick off National Farmers Market Week with a celebration of all things bananas. Taste Amanda’s banana paletas, learn about different banana varieties and win copies of Glenn Stokes’ seminal book, Bananas You Can Grow at this fun event!

Tuesday Market, July 31, 2012 | 9 am - 1 pm

Uptown New Orleans | 200 Broadway Street at the River

It’s hot out there, and running your oven often feels like torture during summer months. Grab a quick, nutritious meal or snack from Nur’s Mediterranean Kitchen and give the oven a rest with Nur's traditional and cilantro hummus, cooling tabuli, stuffed grape leaves, red lentil balls, and many more delicious options, all sold at our Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday markets.

Come see Canal St. Bistro on their last appearance of the month at our Green Plate Special tent. They end the month with pork carnitas with rice and beans, grilled veggie platter with black beans, black beans and guacamole, horchata, and agua fresca. Thanks again to the Canal St. Bistro staff and Chef Guillermo Peters for a wonderful month under the GPS tent!

Thursday Market, August 2, 2012 | 3 pm - 7 pm

Mid-City New Orleans | 3700 Orleans Avenue at the Bayou

We’re sad to say goodbye to our wonderful summer market interns, Tatiana and Caroline. We’ll miss their smiling faces at all three of our markets. They had a great summer in New Orleans, and loved their time at market, especially getting to know our amazing vendors and shoppers. We wish them the best of luck, and know they’ll go on to do great things! Good luck, ladies.

Saturday Market, August 4, 2012 | 8 am - 12 noon

Downtown New Orleans | 700 Magazine Street at Girod

Peach season has come to an end, but we’re already looking forward to Fall crops coming soon. Be on the lookout for (more) apples, fall squash, sweet potatoes, greens and more in the coming months. The heat is still going strong, so eggplant, tomatoes and summer squash will still be around for a bit. Shopping at the market is seasonal living at it’s very best!

Recipe of the Week
