The food community of Greater New Orleans is mourning the loss of charismatic Folsom farmer Jim Core. He lost his battle with cancer early Saturday with family at his side. Chefs loved him. Market shoppers in NOLA and Covington would search him out, his products, and that memorable voice. Our hearts go out to Gladys and the entire family.
James C. "Jim" Core passed away on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at the age of 71. Beloved husband of 41 years to Gladys Mar-chand Core. Loving father of Allison Core Cousins. Son of the late Annie Lou Corbin Magruder and Harold Leroy Core. Brother of Harold Core, Wilma Wright, David Core, Frances Carrington, Susan Threeton and the late Lila Faye Russell. Grandfather of Taylor Healy, A.J. Healy and Savannah Cousins. He was a longtime farmer in Folsom and has supplied the finer restaurants and farmers markets with quality produce. He was an honest hardworking man of integrity who will be missed by his family, friends and all who knew him. Relatives and friends are invited to the Memorial Services on Monday, August 27, 2012 at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433 with a gathering beginning at 9:00 AM followed by a Memorial Mass at 11:00 AM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Mr. Core to be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 411 N. Rampart St., New Orleans, LA 70112.
