Join Commissioner of Agriculture & Forestry Mike Strain and members of our state-wide food community Wednesday November 7th for the first ever Louisiana Food Access Summit. With a mission to stimulate the engagement of farmers, community members, organizations and policy makers to combat hunger and strengthen Louisiana's regional food systems, the Summit is open to to Louisiana farmers, distributors, school food service, farmers market directors, food security researchers, food banks, hunger advocates, buy local advocates, food policy council advisory groups and food system decision makers. With the holidays right around the corner, it's pie season! If you don't care to or have time to bake your own (check out our Recipe of the Week), Mrs. Frances "the Pie Lady" Chauvin has you covered. In addition to all the wonderful pies she usually offers, Mrs. Chauvin will have mincemeat and apple-cranberry pies available at the first three Tuesday markets in November. Mrs. Chauvin won't be at market this Tuesday, but please call her at 985-345-7515 to pre-order your holiday pies.

At the Crescent City Farmers Market, we spend a lot of time thinking about food - so much time, that we sometimes forget to apply sunscreen before heading out to the market. When the Tulane Department of Dermatology let us know that November is National Healthy Skin Month, it got our wheels a-turning. This Thursday, we're happy to welcome the Tulane Department of Dermatology and Dr. Andrea Murina to the market to do skin checks and hand out sunscreen and important skin care information. Join us and learn how to keep your skin healthy!

Last Saturday was a special Marketeers treat with our annual Market Mash (check out our CCFM Facebook page for pictures)! Join us this Saturday for our regularly scheduled November Marketeers activity. We'll be making corn husk dolls, just as the Native Americans and the early Europeans settlers did. We're also excited to welcome vendor Timmy Perrilloux and his gorgeous fall crop to the market.

Market Umbrella is an independent nonprofit 501(c)(3), based in New Orleans, whose mission is to cultivate the field of public markets for public good. Market Umbrella has operated the Crescent City Farmers Markets (CCFM) since 1995.

The Crescent City Farmers Market operates weekly year-round in four New Orleans neighborhoods. The CCFM hosts nearly 80 local small farmers, fishers and food producers, and more than 100,000 shoppers annually.
