Fresh Item of the Week

fresh item of the week

This year, make a resolution that's easy, delicious, and good for your community. Shopping at the CCFM makes the healthy choice the easy choice, with local farmers, fishers and amazing food all in one place. Shopping at the market also helps ensure that your food dollars stay in your community - in the pockets of the people who work to bring us healthful, local food. Increasing your fruit and vegetable consumption can do wonders for your health, lowering cholesterol and blood pressure, reducing cancer risks and helping you lose weight. Resolve to shop at the market this year and watch your food knowledge, cooking habits and health change for the better. In turn, we're resolving to keep the market as fresh, healthy and fun as we can this year!

Kick off 2013 with a bang at the market this Saturday! We'll have a fun Marketeer kids' event with an educational farmers market version of "Eat This, Not That", and Chef Anne Churchill will host a healthy cooking Q&A for shoppers of all ages. Saturday we also kick off our first Winter Market Match. Up to $20 in SNAP purchases are matched per market visit, as funding permits, thanks to generous support from Louisiana Healthcare Connections. The expansion of Market Match coincides with the release of findings from the Healthy Food Incentives Cluster Evaluation, an analysis of incentive programs run by Market Umbrella, Fair Food Network, Roots of Change and Wholesome Wave. Copies of the Healthy Food Incentives Cluster Evaluation are available at For more information, visit our website.

Recipe of the Week

Cabbage and black-eyed peas rule New Years menus in the South. Try something a little bit different with this recipe for Cajun Caviar. Observing these holiday traditions is said to guarantee a New Year filled with luck (from the black-eyed peas) and money (from the cabbage). Wishing everyone good luck, good health and all the best in 2013!
