This week, New Orleanians are gearing up for Super Bowl XLVII. Whether you plan to head downtown to take part in the festivities or watch them from the comfort of your own home, CCFM has what you need. Pick up tamales ready to pop on the table for dinner on-the-go. Fresh shrimp are perfect for tailgate boils, along with crudité and hummus for snacking. Our Saturday market will be open regular hours Super Bowl weekend. Please check for street closures.

We love kale, so when we heard that Gladys and A.J. of Taylor Happy Oaks Farms are growing a new variety, we were thrilled! The new green is Beira kale, also known as Portugese kale. Beira kale has all the best qualities of both kale and collards, with fleshy, ribbed leaves that are sweet and tender. It's a great addition to soups or in your usual winter greens preparations. The ribs can also be cut up and used like celery! Come by this week and give this new addition to market a try.

For Chef Anne Churchill's last week under the GPS tent, she's going all out! This Tuesday choose from duck and andouille gumbo with Cajun Grain rice or vegan mushroom boudin with a side of raw cauliflower salad or market veggies. For dessert, she'll have chocolate flourless cake with chicory coffee sauce. Thanks, Chef Anne, for a tasty and fun month of Tuesdays out at the market.

Last week we were excited to have a produce-packed Thursday market, including blood oranges from Star Nursery. Blood oranges are a beautiful, sweet winter treat with their distinctive red flesh becoming more colorful as the winter progresses. It's this color that gives the citrus more anti-oxidants than other oranges. Try them in cocktails, Italian sodas, salads, sorbet, or of course on their own, to add a little extra color and style to your plate or glass this week.

Sunday is the big day, so come by the market Saturday for last minute Super Bowl goodies. Traffic may be a little hairy, so be sure to check to plan your route. Another great option is riding your bike to the market! We hear that Pesto Paul, who's missed the for a few weeks, will be back this Saturday with his flavorful pestos and personality!

Recipe of the Week

Mardi Gras and Super Bowl parties mean crawfish in New Orleans. Try this Crawfish Pasta with Blood Orange Sauce with fresh, local citrus from Star Nursery. We've been spying crawfish in stores the past few weeks and are excited to finally start eating them! This recipe is perfect for a busy week - readily available ingredients, easy prep and a quick cooking time.
