Strawberries are back!

Fresh & Local

Farmer Isabel Mendez of Independence, LA offers a bevy of products from her market space on Tuesdays and Saturdays year-round. Visit Isabel this week for sweet Louisiana strawberries, as well as her year-round offerings of tamales; locally produced sausages; fresh tortilla chips and a selection of salsas. Check out this week's recipe of the week for Isabel's very own Chiles Rellenos.

Pick of the Week: Louisiana Strawberries

Louisiana strawberries are a sweet and healthy treat. For the past few weeks, strawberries have been missing from the market due to the recent bad weather. When it is extremely cold or wet the farmers cover the strawberries to offer protection from the elements. Lucky for us the weather has cleared up and strawberries are back! Visit the Crescent City Farmers Markets to get you fill of fresh Louisiana strawberries this week! To learn more about Louisiana strawberries, visit the LSU AG Center's Strawberry Portal.

Tuesday’s Green Plate Special

We welcome Ralph Brennan Restaurant Group to the GPS tent for March! This week, Ralph's on the Park is offering smoked duck boudin with green tomato relish, yakemain with beef brisket and bucatini pasta; and cherry tomato & pickled okra salad. For dessert don't forget to try their ginger spiced carrot cake!

In addition to growing those delicious berries, and all kinds of seasonal produce year-round, Isabel Mendez can cook! She shared her recipe for Chiles Rellenos (which we think would be a great use of the delicious Progress Millk Barn cheese available at the Tuesday market). Enjoy this for a festive Lenten Friday dinner!
