Market Mash and Creole Cream Cheese week!

Fresh & Local

Join us Saturday, October 26 from 8am-12 noon, for our annual Market Mash, our largest and most fun Marketeers kids event! No tricks, just treats at this fun costumed market day. Trick or treat at CCFM for your favorite farmers market treats, with extra treats for kids (and grown-ups) in costume. Come out and show off your great Halloween costume a few days early and fill up your treat bag with healthy, fun goodies. The event is free and open to any child from birth to 16. We can’t wait to see all the cute, scary, and fun costumes! Not yet a Marketeer? Read about the program here and sign up Saturday.

Thursday, October 24 is Food Day, a national celebration and movement for healthy, affordable, and sustainable food. There are events all over the city and state (including the first Louisiana Big Easy Satsuma Peel!) and ways to get involved throughout the week, so you can celebrate every day. Join us at our Thursday mid-city market for demos, tastings, and more to celebrate our local food system and the delicious foods that make Louisiana so special.

Pick of the Week: Creole Cream Cheese!

Creole Cream Cheese is a Slow Food Ark of Taste food and we couldn’t be prouder to have the Mauthe Family, who helped bring this traditional food back into popularity, as market vendors. To celebrate we will have a Creole Cream Cheese demo and tasting at our Tuesday and Thursday markets this week. Want more cheese goodness? Check out the fantastic Slow Food NOLA Creole Cream Cheese event Thursday at the US Mint.

Tuesday’s Green Plate Special

We are taco crazy at market! This week we welcome back La Cocinita’s big red truck to Green Plate Special. They will be serving up their market inspired tacos, arepas and quesadilla, in addition to tasty side items and refreshing horchata. This weeks specials include venezuelan cornmeal patties stuffed with roasted sweet potatoes, black beans, arugula, caramelized onions, roasted red pepper sauce, & cotija cheese. Bring your work or school friends and make Tuesday lunch an experience!

We are practically dancing through the aisles at market now that citrus here! The weather is still warm, but there are great greens at market, so salads are a great mealtime solution. Add this Satsuma-Brown Butter Vinaigrette to any salad, or use as a marinade for chicken or steak and enjoy the intense flavor of both the juice and the rind of Louisiana’s golden food, the Satsuma!
