CCFM in the French Market: Grand Opening this Wednesday!

Fresh & Local

CCFM is coming to the French Market starting this Wednesday October, 15th! Every Wednesday from 2-6pm this historic space will come alive with local fresh produce, pastured meats, seafood, dairy, breads and baked goods, preserves, and more from the food producers you already know and love, and from new folks who we’re excited to introduce you to. There’s so much to be excited about with our umbrellas opening up here every Wednesday. Not only will we be bringing fresh locally grown, caught, and produced food to a new part of the city, but we’ll have cooking demos and live music every week! Did we mention there’s free parking? 2-hour validated parking will be available during market hours every Wednesday in the French Market’s Riverside Lot (Turn on St. Peter Street toward the river from Decatur Street). We’d love to have your support on opening day, so walk, bike, and drive on down to the grand opening of our fourth weekly market this Wednesday! pick of the week

Pick of the Week: Cheese!

It’s National Cheese Month! What a better way to spend the month of October than celebrating the most versatile, delicious, and our favorite dairy product, cheese. Cheese is high in calcium, protein, and flavor, and can be the perfect accent to any meal or snack you’re planning. From Rockin R Dairy’s aged cow cheddar, to their bold and spicy Cajun Chevre made from fresh goat cheese, to the famous Creole Cream Cheese from Mauthe’s dairy, we’ve got all sorts of cheese waiting for you at CCFM!

Tuesday’s Green Plate Special

In addition to La Cocinita’s usual menu line-up, we’ve got two special lunch items to look forward to this Tuesday: Watermelon-Mint Agua Fresca, and Local Veggie Arepas (Venezuelan cornmeal patties stuffed with chile-roasted sweet potatoes, braised kale, green onions, purple cabbage slaw, queso fresco and roasted jalapeƱo salsa). We can’t wait for Tuesday!

Who’s up for some baking? In celebration of National Cheese Month, try out this Tomato, Zuchinni, and Leek Galette with Roasted Goat Cheese recipe courtesy of Emeril Lagasse’s 2010 cookbook, Farm to Fork: Cooking Local, Cooking Fresh. Be sure to come by market and pick up your goat cheese from Rocking R Dairy, and the rest of your veggies up from one of our regular produce vendors!
