Chez Panisse’s Cal Peternell visits market with his new cookbook!

Fresh & Local

We are thrilled to welcome Chez Panisse’s chef, Cal Peternell, to market Saturday for a cookbook signing and cooking demo from his new book. Twelve Recipes. Chef Peternell was inspired to write this book when his oldest son was preparing to go off to college, making it a book of the core recipes that are at the heart of home cooking. Twelve Recipes is about more than just recipes; it is a journey into learning how to cook and the joy that comes with it. With forewords by Michael Pollan and Alice Waters and acclaim across the board Twelve Recipes is a must have for experienced and early cooks!

Pick of the Week: Mirlitons!

Mirlitons are having a great season this year. These babies are the pride and joy of Louisiana during the fall and holiday season and we are thrilled to see them on many market tables. Mirlitons, also known as “New Orleans Chayote” are high in fiber but low in calories, making them perfect for healthy holiday tables.

Tuesday’s Green Plate Special

Frencheeze Food Truck was a huge hit last week! Who knew grilled cheese could be so interesting and inventive? We were loving the Molly, with goat cheese, avocado and bacon. Check in with us this week and see what combo they come up with.

Recipe of the Week

Shrimp Stuffed Mirliton is best when made with Louisiana mirlitons, abundant in markets right now - not ones from California or Mexico. It's up to our market community to make sure that the heirloom mirliton varieties which have grown in our region for decades, continue to for decades more, so eat up!
