June’s just around the corner! Are you ready for the Eat Local Challenge?

Fresh & Local

June’s coming up again, and you know what that means… Time for another Eat Local Challenge! Are you ready to join us, over 80 New Orleans restaurants, and hundreds of Locavores from across Southeast Louisiana as we take the challenge to eat only food grown, caught, or raised within 200 miles of New Orleans? This great month-long initiative works to spread awareness of the nutritional, economic, environmental and cultural benefits of eating local, and we’re happy to be participating again this year. In addition to supporting all of our local farming, fishing, and food producing families at all four of our markets during June, you can join us for a couple special Eat Local Challenge events that we’ll be hosting this year like our Beekeeping demo at market on June 20th and Local Foods Bingo night at the Zeitgeist on June 25th. We’ll also have the ELC team out signing people up at market this Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for folks who have yet to register for the challenge. For more information on this fun-filled initiative, all the events, information on all the awesome sign-up perks, or to sign yourself up visit We’re excited and feeling up to the challenge! Are you?

Picks of the Week:
2nd Annual French Market Summer Harvest Gala!

Join the French Market for their 2nd Annual Summer Harvest Gala on Wednesday, June 10th, as the the historic marketplace transforms into an elegant dinner setting with food and spirits from some of the finest restaurants this city has to offer. They’ll start the evening off with a cocktail reception with handcrafted cocktails by Cane & Table featuring the craft vodkas of Cathead Vodka. Then there will be a family-style dinner served prepared by Chef Justin Devillier of La Petite Grocery and Balise and a team of award winning chefs from around town. The menu will highlight the fresh local, seasonal food that the French Market is working so hard to bring back to the French Quarter. All the proceeds from this evening will go to support this very initiative of bringing fresh, local food back to the French Market, including their partnership with us and our new Wednesday market. This is sure to be a beautiful evening pleasing to all the senses, so be sure to get your tickets soon before they’re gone! For more information on this event or to get your tickets now, click here.

Another Cooking Demo with
Kid Chef Eliana!

We’re pleased to welcome Kid Chef Eliana back to market for another one of her famous farmers market cooking demos! Last month she prepared a killer market fried rice with fresh ingredients from around the market. Can’t wait to see what she’s cooking up this Saturday! Be sure to bring the kids, because this Kid Chef is a pro at engaging the little ones and getting them interested in the culinary arts.

Marketeer Activity!

Hey Marketeers! Join us this Saturday as we get ready to do some hunting. We’ve got a list of market mysteries we need you to help us solve. Find something purple. Now find something round. Now find something orange that grows underground. We’ve got a great market-fresh scavenger hunt ready for you! See you Saturday!

Tuesday’s Green Plate Special

This Tuesday is Casa Borrega’s last day with us under the Green Plate Special tent for the month of May. We’ve enjoyed all they’ve prepared for us this month from market fresh quesadillas and tostadas, to ceviche and iced horchata. We’re sad to see the sights and smells of authentic Mexican street cuisine leave the market, but we’re excited to see what they’ll be bringing out on their last market this Tuesday! Be on standby as we hop across to the other side of the globe next month as we welcome the popular Burmese pop-up Lahpet to market!
