Happy New Year from the farmers market!

Fresh & Local

Our first markets of the year are ripe with a wide selection of delectable comestibles. Cauliflower can be found in a variety of colors, shapes, and sizes. Fresh and dried herbs are ready to be eaten or planted. A marriage of citrus and seafood never disappoints. And, of course, there are the popular morsels that pack a mighty punch: brussel sprouts. What will this year’s plate-centerpiece be? See for yourself at the market to find out what our renowned farmers are growing and what the best chefs in town are buying.

Pick of the Week:
Green Onions!

Looking for a way to bring a bright note to your next meal? Pick up some green onions at any of our 4 markets and let your culinary imagination run wild. Use the tender tops to garnish a soup or grill the plants whole after sprinkling with salt and oil to dulcify the sharp earthiness (a spritz of lime after a good char never hurts!). Like shallots, green onions and scallions have a more delicate flavor than their larger, developed onion counterpart. What’s for dinner?

Tuesday’s Green Plate Special

We are excited to announce that Casa Borrega will be kicking off the Green Plate Special in 2016. Fresh Latin flavors with something for everyone, whether you like your salsa mild or picante!

Recipe of the Week

The New Year calls for new recipes. At our office, we have a slew of wonderful cookbooks. This recipe was adapted from one of our favorites, but we tweaked it to highlight a choice market staple: broccoli. Put your own spin on it and try a different veggie!

What’s your favorite dish to make at home from the goods you buy at our market? Share them with us on instagram (@crescentcityfarmersmkt) and have your recipe featured in our weekly newsletter!
