Healthy Food Retail

Last week, Governor Bel Edwards signed House Bill 1 into effect, which included $1 million in funding for the Healthy Food Retail Act. This is great news and means we have DOUBLE the amount of funding to help allocate food deserts in Louisiana! The money will support grocery store development to making fresh, healthy food more accessible and affordable across the state. Yay!

recipe of the week

Recipe of the Week:
Okra and Corn Maque Choux

When corn, okra, and tomatoes are all in season, you have to make maque choux! It’s truly the perfect side dish recipe for a summer picnic or barbecue. The recipe calls for spicy smoked sausage, but you can easily leave that out for a vegetarian option.

What’s your favorite dish to make after visiting the Crescent City Farmers Market? Share your recipes with us on Instagram or Facebook or even Twitter and it might be featured in our weekly newsletter!
