Muriel's Jackson Square, in the French Quarter, is proud to announce it has named Gus Martin as the new Executive Chef. He comes with the breadth of knowledge and depth of experience that can only come from a 25-year culinary veteran. "Chef Gus will bring a lot of presence and vast gastronomic ability to our kitchen. He will improve upon the rich, mouthwatering dishes New Orleans diners have come to expect from Muriel's contemporary Creole menu," states Rick Gratia, Muriel's Owner and Managing Partner.

Born and raised in New Orleans, Martin spent his childhood watching his mother and grandmother cook authentic Creole and Cajun food in their home kitchens, which instilled in him a passion for local food. He began his culinary career at the young age of 14 in the kitchen of Commander's Palace under the watchful eye of Chef Paul Prudhomme. After high school Gus completed six years of service in the United States Army, and then came home to return to his first love of cooking. At Mr. B's Bistro, Gus quickly moved up the ranks to Sous Chef before moving to Commander's Palace to serve as Executive Sous Chef under the late Chef Jamie Shannon. With new leaderships skills in hand Gus was promoted to Chef de Cuisine at Palace Café, and then named Executive Chef. Gus also held Executive Chef positions at Dickie Brennan's Steakhouse, as well as his most recent post at Ralph Brennan's Ralph's on the Park.

Martin is no stranger to Gratia or Anthony Palormo, Muriel's General Manager. Gus has worked with both men over the years at several Brennan Family restaurants. "I'm thrilled to be joining the team at Muriel's. It feels just like home; good friends, good food and a comfortable New Orleans atmosphere," states Martin.

Muriel's Jackson Square is open for Lunch and Dinner seven days a week, and Sunday Brunch featuring Joe Simon's Jazz Trio. Located at 801 Chartres Street in the French Quarter. For reservations or more information call 504.568.1885 or visit www.muriels.com.
