Categories: Market News Date: Apr 18, 2008 Title: Williams-Sonoma Founder to Ring Market Bell
We're really honored to have as our guest Saturday, April 19, author and Williams-Sonoma founder Chuck Williams. Mr. Williams is in New Orleans to receive a Lifetime Achievement award from the International Association of Culinary Professionals, which is holding its annual meeting here April 15-19. He has agreed to take time out of his busy New Orleans tour to ring the Crescent City Farmers Market's opening bell, and we hope to have a big crowd on hand to welcome him.
Last year, Williams-Sonoma was our host in San Francisco during the White Boot Brigade's West Coast campaign, and the company dedicated its lavish February 2008 catalog to New Orleans. All the photos were shot on location here, including some of White Boot Brigade shrimper Lance Nacio, who has been shipping his wild-caught shrimp to Williams-Sonoma customers across the country.
Chuck Williams started selling European cookware out of a former hardware store in Sonoma, CA back in 1954, back when most American home cooks were more interested in those newfangled TV dinners than haute cuisine. The ensuing decades saw a radical change in the way people thought about food and wine, and Williams' company expanded accordingly. Today, the Williams-Sonoma family (which includes Pottery Barn) is considered the nation's premiere source of fine kitchenware and home furnishings.
It's a real treat to have Chuck Williams in the city and at the Market. Come out early and help us give him a real New Orleans welcome!
