Saturday, May 31, 2008 from 8 am til' noon the Crescent City Farmers Market will be showcasing Louisiana's prized Brown Shrimp, harvested at the peak of its spring season from the nearby sweet, brackish waters.
The event will feature educational discussions with members of the White Boot Brigade, a traveling shrimpers' road show committed to sustainable harvests, cultural preservation, and business innovation for shrimpers; and Ewell Smith of the Louisiana Seafood Education Board. Topics for discussion will include the difference between brown spring shrimp and summer white shrimp, proper cooking and handling techniques for brown shrimp, the superiority of Gulf products and the cultural and economic importance of supporting area shrimpers and fishermen.
Martket patrons can experience the superior flavor of brown Gulf shrimp through samples of Shrimp Remoulade prepared by Chef Brian Landry, Executive Chef of Galatoire's restaurant. Live Bluegrass music will be provided by the Tanglers String Band and, of course, market vendors will have plenty of beautiful brown shrimp for sale as well as other fresh delicacies.
