Join us in welcoming our Robertson Scholar, Liz Deane, who will be interning at the Crescent City Farmers Market this summer. You can catch her working the Welcome Tent at our market Uptown on Tuesdays and in the Warehouse District on Saturdays. You may even run into Liz at the Edible School Yard, where she will be helping out with classes and in the garden. Also, don’t be surprised when you see her on Thursdays at the Mid-City Green Market; this summer she will be busy learning about New Orleans’ markets firsthand.
The Robertson Scholar Program connects students to two universities: the University of North Carolina and Duke University. Liz comes to us from UNC-Chapel Hill, land of the Tar Heels. The Robertson Scholarship is a full-ride scholarship that focuses on leadership and commitment to service. Scholars serve communities across the globe, from New Orleans, to South Africa, to Vietnam.
Liz is an Economics major, with a minor in Social Entrepreneurship. In the past, she has served organizations such as the Sister-to-Sister National Heart Day, worked as student government president, and lead Click for Glik, a group dedicated to the passage of a primary seatbelt bill in Missouri.
So when you see Liz at the market, give her a smile and remember that it takes real dedication to work at the farmers market in the summer. Welcome Liz! We are happy to have you!
