Categories: Market News Date: Dec 18, 2007 Title: Coming Soon: CCFM Returns to Mid-City!
We have some exciting news to share! Thursday, January 14, 2010, the Crescent City Farmers Market will ring the opening bell at its former Mid-City market location.
As many of you will remember, eight years ago, local farmers, fishermen
and food artisans gathered in the parking lot of the American Can Co.
for the first time to sell their products to crowds of hungry New
Orleanians. The market, at that time run by the CCFM, became a popular
community meeting place, as well as a bustling center of commerce. When
the CCFM regrouped after Hurricane Katrina, one of the casualties was
this much-loved Thursday evening market.
In the spring of 2008, thanks to Cork & Bottle proprietor Jon Smith’s steadfast commitment to his community and the dedication of a core group of market vendors, the Mid-City Green Market opened in the same space. Now, with two growing businesses and a growing family, Jon Smith is handing the market back to the CCFM with the hope that this will ensure its future growth as well.
So how exactly will the transition take place? The final Mid-City Green Market was held Thursday, December 17, 2009. All Mid-City Green Market vendors have been invited and encouraged to submit a vendor interest form for the CCFM. Current CCFM vendors and any other local farmers, fishermen or food artisans wishing to sell at the “new” Mid-City CCFM should contact marketumbrella.org director of markets Emery Van Hook no later than 5pm, Monday, December 28, 2009.
Prospective Mid-City CCFM vendor applications will be reviewed by the CCFM Market Management Team and marketumbrella.org staff. Applicants will be contacted about their status by year-end. All vendors for the Mid-City CCFM will be provisionally accepted to allow for site-visits and product review. The “first” Mid-City CCFM will be held Thursday, January 14, 2010, from 3-7pm, in its original location. Please contact Emery Van Hook at 504.451.1638 or firstname.lastname@example.org with questions.
We’re extremely excited about this new chapter in the market’s history and are thrilled to once again be part of the Mid-City community. We look forward to seeing everyone at the Mid-City CCFM soon!
