Categories: Market News Date: Sep 14, 2010 Title: MarinersMatch: Finally something good on the horizon!
MarinersMatch, a joint project of Wholesome Wave and marketumbrella.org, offers relief for local fishers, shrimpers and oystermen affected by the BP oil spill. From the vantage point of farmers markets, we recognize that the scale of the BP industrial disaster is far greater than what a small community of farmers markets can realistically provide. However, we believe that markets nourish people physically and mentally. As a result, we've created an incentive program, MarinersMatch, for those whom we consider heroes returning from the sea.
Individuals who come to the Welcome Tent at our three Crescent City Farmers Markets or go to participating Mississippi farmers markets and show their commercial fishing license and picture ID will receive $40 in market tokens, as well as discounts and passes to nearby attractions like the Audubon Zoo, Aquarium and Insectarium, the Louisiana Children's Museum and the Southern Food & Beverage Museum. Offer good for multiple market visits, while supplies last.
Participating Mississippi farmers markets: Thursdays in Bay St. Louis: Main St. Market, Downtown Green Space - corner of Second and Main, 3-6pm; Saturdays in Long Beach: Real Food Market, Downtown Long Beach - 126 Jefferson Davis Ave., 9am-1pm; Saturdays in Ocean Springs: Fresh Market, Downtown Depot, 1000 Washington Ave., 9am-1pm). For more information about participating Mississippi Gulf Coast farmers markets, call Dianne Claughton at 228.257.2496 or Dita McCarthy at 228.234.8732.
