Categories: Market News Date: Dec 28, 2010 Title: Crescent Fund Investments Announced
In the spirit of giving, we are pleased to announce the outcome of our December 2010 Crescent Fund secret ballot selection process. In keeping with our commitment to invest in community and enterprise innovations, two projects garnered the most votes: one for-profit and the other non-profit.
During the December 2010 Crescent Fund election, over 400 ballots were cast, resulting in two $500 cash infusion investments. Voters selected the Green Project's grammar school environmental education program and Crescent City Farmers Market vendor Bittersweet Confections' website improvements. Twice a year we award funds to projects that reinforce our belief in linking public markets with public good. Recipients pay back the Market community via time, talent or treasure. The Market community raises these funds via the optional $1 requested when shoppers purchase Market tokens at the Welcome Tent. If you are unfamiliar with the Market tokens, this is how the Crescent City Farmers Market enables credit, debit and benefit card shoppers to purchase products directly from Market vendors. Credit card, debit card and check-writing shoppers are charged a $1 token handling fee per transaction and are given the opportunity to contribute $1 or more into the Crescent Fund. This additional $1 for the Crescent Fund aggregates into a pool of funds for community and enterprise innovation: The Crescent Fund. Thank you to everyone who voted at the Market and online, and to everyone who invests in our market community throughout the year by contributing to the Crescent Fund when purchasing Market tokens.
