Fresh Item of the Week
Tuesday Market, January 18, 2011 | 9 am - 1 pm
Recent chilly temps have all but erased 2010's freezes from our memories. Last year's winter took a toll on this year's citrus season, which will be shorter than usual. The Plaquemines Parish satsumas, navels, red navels, LA sweets and ponkan mandarines we've been enjoying thanks to Linda and Lester L'Hoste and Aloma and Kenneth Savastano have been super sweet lately, so enjoy them while they last!
Thursday Market, January 20, 2011 | 3 pm - 7 pm
It's soup weather! On any given day there are several pots of soup simmering in the Vintage Garden Kitchen. All made from scratch using as much produce from their own garden as possible, the Vintage Garden Kitchen's soups are as healthy as they are delicious. Moroccan chickpea, vegan lentils and greens, potato & Swiss chard, spicy shiitate mushroom & barley... Take the night off from the kitchen and curl up by the fire.
Saturday Market, January 22, 2011 | 8 am - 12 pm
Want to start a home laying operation or just learn more about chicken husbandry? Saturday after the market, Jessa Madasky (who many know as one of the smiling faces under our Tuesday & Saturday market welcome tents) leads a Green Projectivity workshop from 3-5pm on how to construct a chicken coop using reclaimed materials, and general chicken care. All workshops are $5 (free for members) and are held at the Green Project, 2831 Marais Street.
