Honey man Al "Paw Paw" and Dottie Mouton know something about love. They've been married over 50 years. The couple met at Newcomb/Tulane University, where Dottie studied art and Al majored in math. The college sweethearts married a year after graduation and now have 9 children, 25 grandchildren and 11 great grandkids at our last count. Saturday mornings you'll find the happy couple behind Paw Paw's honey table. He keeps bees, grows vegetables and raises rabbits in their backyard in Algiers - the kind of urban homestead of many young couples' dreams. A sweet life indeed.

With weather like we had last week, the cozy life of a hothouse tomato seems pretty appealing. Coming soon Tuesday vendor Bon Vivant Produce's hothouse tomatoes are looking lovely. Check them out! It sounds like they need just a couple more weeks to ripen, then they're headed to the market. Stay tuned for tomatoes!

On the menu this week: kale, smoked onion and Ryals cheese curd quiche, shiitake ya ka mein with boiled egg, noodles, smoked tofu and green onion, honey garlic meatball banh mi and honey garlic lentil ball banh mi, both in a homemade pistolette with zesty sauce and tart Asian slaw, raw kale salad with carrot almond vinaigrette, heart shaped chocolate flourless cake with freshly whipped cream, and thick, rich hot chocolate.

Last week we talked about getting the most out of our vegetables. The farm staff at Oakland Organic are pros at this. In addition to the beautiful lettuce, arugula, chard and collards they bring to the market (some available loose by the pound, others in bunches), they also bring some dried items, including assorted herbs and even red giant mustards. Oakland Organic's Hutch McClendon likes using the dried mustards as a rub for pork tenderloin. No scary anticaking agents here!

Pick up sweets for your sweetheart this Saturday. Wayne Brown of Crescent Creams makes a few different types of pralines - creamy coconut, chocolate, cafe au lait and traditional pecan. He also makes some more scandalous sounding candies - Nipples of Venus. Ask Wayne for the backstory on these sweets this weekend.

We're thrilled to have Papa Tom Bonnecaze back at our Saturday market. Pick up a bag of his stone-ground grits this weekend for this Sausage Cheese Grits Casserole, which can be prepared the night before, then sprinkled with cheese and baked Valentine's Day morning. Hint, hint...
