fresh item of the week

Mardi Gras is just around the corner, which means Lent is too. Reserve your "share" of local fishing family & CCFM vendor Pete & Clara Gerica's catch. Pick up weekly shares at the Thursday Mid-City CCFM for Lenten Friday fish frys, shrimp boils, seafood poboys, Creoles & Gulf Coast cooking. Click here for more information and an order form. Become a fan of Crescent City Supported Fisheries on Facebook for information on weekly share contents, seafood cooking tips and more.

Tuesday Market, March 1, 2011 | 9 am - 1 pm

Uptown New Orleans | 200 Broadway Street at the River

This Tuesday's market will be the last opportunity to try Forte Grove's galette des rois (traditional French King Cake - puff pastry with homemade almond filling), at least for this carnival season. To be sure you get one (or more!), pre-order by noon today by emailing Forte Grove. Please be sure to include the number and sizes ($5 small or $20 large) of cakes and a phone number. Pre-orders will be held until 10:30am Tuesday.

green plate special

Woody Ruiz has a cult-like following, with good reason. Those who have tasted his fish tacos understand. This Tuesday Woody returns to the GPS tent with his signature blackened drum fish tacos with spicy remoulade sauce and coleslaw. Welcome back Woody!

Thursday Market, March 3, 2011 | 3 pm - 7 pm

Mid-City New Orleans | 3700 Orleans Avenue at the Bayou

More time spent on the parade route means less time to spend in the kitchen. Pick up a good supply of vegetarian Mediterranean dishes from Nur's Kitchen to throw in the parade ice chest. They're way healthier than anything you're likely to find along the parade route. Pam Warner's tamales and the Vintage Garden's Kitchen's soups can have post-parade dinner on the table in a matter of minutes.

Saturday Market, March 5, 2011 | 8 am - 11 am

Downtown New Orleans | 700 Magazine Street at Girod

Our Saturday market will close an hour early (11am) so we can all beat the parade traffic, but that still gives us plenty of time to eat some king cake! Become a fan of the CCFM on Facebook and tell us who you think bakes the best cake in town. We'll have free samples of fan favorite(s) Saturday while they last, beginning at 9am.

Recipe of the Week

Pick up Pineywoods beef from Justin Pitts and stone-ground grits from Papa Tom for these Pineywoods Grillades & Grits - great for brunch before heading out to day parades, or dinner before or after night parades.
