Our new Community Supported Fisheries program (think Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), but with fresh local seafood) is a great way to support Louisiana fishing families and enjoy local seafood during Lent. Pay in advance for one or more shares of long-standing CCFM vendor Pete & Clara Gerica and their Lake Pontchartrain Fisherman's Association friends' catch, then pick up weekly shares at our Thursday evening Mid-City CCFM for Lenten Friday fish frys, shrimp boils and poboys. Click here for more information. Become a fan of Crescent City Supported Fisheries for share contents and the latest from the Gerica family.

Woody Ruiz is back at the Tuesday Market with his eponymous fish tacos, as well as Louisiana shrimp and pulled pork tacos, all with spicy remoulade sauce and crunchy coleslaw. Whether it's huevos rancheros or gumbo z'herbes, Woody usually throws something else delicious and local in the mix too.

In November of 2008, 4 year old Ben Sarrat, Jr. was diagnosed with incurable brain cancer. After meeting Ben and seeing his love of life in the face of such terrible circumstances, local attorney/food writer/regular Saturday Market shopper/all around good guy Rene Louapre an his buddy Becker Hall decided to focus their first "Hogs For The Cause" pig cook-off on raising money to help Ben and his family. While Ben lost his battle a week before Hogs for the Cause 2010, his story only solidified Rene & Becker's desire to do whatever they could to help families struggling with the financial burdens of caring for a child with brain cancer. This year's event takes place at "City Pork" this Saturday. Click here for ticket information and food/music line-ups.

Recipe of the Week

Commander's Palace Executive Chef Tory McPhail has been a strong supporter of our CCFM from the beginning, but we're always flattered when he comes through the Market personally shopping for local ingredients. Those wise enough to freeze fresh shell peas last summer have a jump on shopping for ingredients for Tory's Shrimp with Cognac and Local Legumes.
