Item of the Week
Market, April 26, 2011 | 9 am - 1 pm
You know you're in New Orleans when there's fresh turtle meat, crawfish tails and alligator sausage for sale at the farmers market. Jeannie Fonseca's product selection (which includes all of these items, in addition to her usual wild-caught Des Allemands catfish and crabmeat) is as Louisiana as it gets. Stop by and see what the fresh catch is this Tuesday.
Market, April 28, 2011 | 3 pm - 7 pm
It's Jazz Fest time! Which typically means not a lot of leafy greens eating. Stop by the market on the way home from work and pick up some supplies (lettuce, red Russian kale, chard) to help offset all that festival eating. On the other end of the spectrum, Pam Warner's tamales make a great ready-in-10 minutes post-Fest show snack.
Market, April 30, 2011 | 8 am - 12 noon
Tony Accardo is making his way back to the market. Fingers crossed that the weather cooperates for him to be there again this Saturday. Right now the self-proclaimed "Jimi Hendrix of farming" has purple and red carrots, white and bullseye beets, sorrel, Tuscan and purple kale, Sicilian cauliflower, Italian savoy cabbage and purple artichokes in the field. What's for dinner at the Accardo house these days? "The Lebanese squash are starting to make, cook these down with some sesoned shrimp.... now that's what I'm talking 'bout!"
of the Week
It's crawfish season! Jeannie Fonseca's packs of fresh tails go quickly on Tuesdays, so make her your first stop for the main ingredient in Mr. B's Chef Michelle McRaney's Crawfish Risotto.
