Fresh Item of the Week

fresh item of the week

The countdown is on! Twice a year we award up to $500 to projects that reinforce the CCFM's belief in linking public markets with public good. Projects must fit into one of two categories: public market vendors and community improvement efforts. Then our market community selects which projects to fund. Selected recipients pay the market community back in time (volunteering), talent (demos or the like) or treasure (cash). Click here to learn more and SUBMIT YOUR PROPOSAL BY THIS FRIDAY, MAY 20.

Tuesday Market, May 17, 2011 | 9 am - 1 pm

Uptown New Orleans | 200 Broadway Street at the River

Regular Tuesday Market shoppers may have noticed a younger crowd in recent weeks. With generous support from the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, we've been hosting school groups for "Strawberry Field Trips" to the market which include tastings of different varieties of Louisiana strawberries (Ventana, Festival, Jewel, Camino Real - what's your favorite?) and local food map market scavenger hunts that introduce kids to farmers from parishes all around south Louisiana, and teach map skills. Thanks to everyone for helping us welcome our next generation of healthy, educated eaters to the CCFM.

green plate special

Styley Canal Street restaurant 5 Fifty 5 returns to the GPS tent this Tuesday with debronzed redfish with jumbo lump crabmeat and roasted peppers, creamy, decadent lobster mac & cheese, bread heirloom salad and assorted sweets.

Thursday Market, May 19, 2011 | 3 pm - 7 pm

Mid-City New Orleans | 3700 Orleans Avenue at the Bayou

CCFM loves Mid-City! Come celebrate our Thursday Market neighborhood host this weekend at Bayou Boogaloo. But before that, stop by the Market for many more reasons why living in Mid-City is great - early season blueberries from Azul Dolce, cucumbers that actually taste like cucumbers from Jim Core, farm fresh salad greens from Oakland Organic and freezer-to-oven scones and lemon curd for lazy weekend mornings from Georgie's English Kitchen & Garden, all available every Thursday at the Mid-City CCFM.

Saturday Market, May 21, 2011 | 8 am - 12 noon

Downtown New Orleans | 700 Magazine Street at Girod

Still feeling sluggish after all that Jazz Fest grazing on various fried and bready, cheesey foods? Summer crops are quickly coming into season, and not a market too soon. Reintroduce yourself to vegetables this weekend at the market. Load up on salad staples like first of the season Creole tomatoes from the Monica's. Change things up by throwing in Silver Queen corn from Jim Core. Cut it off the cob and sprinkle raw kernels on salads for a little sweetness and extra crunch.

Recipe of the Week

It's going to be a delicious summer! Many crops like the summer squash and corn in these Spicy Squash Pancakes are already in season and available at the CCFM, and more are on the way.
