Fresh Item of the Week

fresh item of the week

We received a record number of applications for cash infusions from our community investment Crescent Fund this cycle. Every time market shoppers purchase tokens with their credit or debit cards, they have the opportunity to invest in our community. Now it's time to decide where those dollars go. Cast your ballot online now until 8am tomorrow, Tuesday, June 7. Or vote at our Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday Market this week.

Tuesday Market, June 7, 2011 | 9 am - 1 pm

Uptown New Orleans | 200 Broadway Street at the River

In response to some of the posts on our CCFM Facebook wall, new vendors Corey Guidry and George Schenck of Fleur de Funghi are indeed fun guys. Come meet them this Tuesday and pick up some of their rare variety oyster mushrooms - Cantonese, Italian, Wild Blue or Golden. According to Corey, the varieties have very different flavor profiles. For example, the Golden mushrooms have floral, cucumber and melon notes, while the Italian variety are richer and beefier.

This month we welcome Susan Spicer's smash hit new restaurant Mondo to the GPS tent. "Mondo is the restaurant I've been wanting to open for years - a comfortable, neighborhood place," says Spicer. Come out this Tuesday and help us welcome Mondo to our Uptown CCFM neighborhood. Mondo's culinary staff was at the CCFM shopping for ingredients Saturday. On their debut menu this Tuesday: Swiss chard dolmades with local feta and heirloom tomato salad, chilled buttermilk-cucumber soup with pickled local blueberries, and blueberry scone with lemon curd.

Thursday Market, June 9, 2011 | 3 pm - 7 pm

Mid-City New Orleans | 3700 Orleans Avenue at the Bayou

The Thursday Mid-City CCFM is hoppin' these days! We suspect the sweet, juicy Southern stone-fruit the Durham family brings from Chilton County, AL has something to do with this. In addition to peaches, look for plums and both yellow and white meat nectarines. And we know Tony Accardo's rainbow of heirloom tomatoes is sure to draw a crowd wherever he sets up shop. Come see how much we've grown this Thursday!

Saturday Market, June 11, 2011 | 8 am - 12 noon

Downtown New Orleans | 700 Magazine Street at Girod

We had a blast racing squash cars at the market last Saturday. This weekend our summer-long series of kids events continues. Come paint pots to plant herbs or veggies for a summer container garden. Jim Mizell of Mizell Farms in Folsom, LA will provide us with plants that can take the brutal summer heat better than we can. Then take your newly potted plant home with you and watch it grow all summer long!

Recipe of the Week

Those taking part in the first annual Eat Local challenge will be especially grateful for this Corn Macque Choux recipe. Pair it with skewers of Clara Gerica's Louisiana Gold shrimp, a term Clara coined for shrimp with so much golden fat in their heads that their cooking water tastes almost buttery.
