green plate special

Last weeks Green Plate Special knocked our socks off! This week we look forward to Mondo's exciting menu of market vegetable curry with basamati rice and goat yogurt, pickled shrimp and heirloom tomato salad and cookies for dessert.

Thursday Market, June 16, 2011 | 3 pm - 7 pm

Mid-City New Orleans | 3700 Orleans Avenue at the Bayou

This past Thursday was the first day for our new produce vendor, Bartlett Farm, located in Folsom, LA. He had some interesting (and delicious) "fuzzy backyard peach" tomatoes, as well as eggplants, cherry tomatoes and a plethora of beautiful cut flowers. Come meet our newest vendor and take home some of his interesting varieties of our favorite summer vegetables!

Saturday Market, June 18, 2011 | 8 am - 12 noon

Downtown New Orleans | 700 Magazine Street at Girod

We hope you enjoyed last week's planting as much as we did! Our summer series of kids events will continue this weekend. Come learn about urban agriculture with our friends at AMPS. We will also be making stamps out of local squash, cucumbers, and potatoes and using our stamps to create some fun pictures. Take home some knowledge about urban agriculture, a lovely stamp picture and a prize!

Recipe of the Week

First of the season okra is here! While all the ingredients in this Stewed Okra recipe can't be sourced from within the Eat Local Challenge's prescribed 200 mile radius, they can be used as inspiration to create one that is.
