MarketMatch (we match SNAP, a.k.a. food stamp, purchases up to $25) ends Saturday, September 17th, but please remember: All 3 CCFM locations accept SNAP benefits year-round!
During our Summer 2009 MarketMatch pilot we saw a 600% increase in SNAP sales at the Crescent City Farmers Market and a 300% residual increase. The numbers and our market community continue to grow. Now in its third season, MarketMatch continues to allow SNAP shoppers to stretch their food dallars, and spend them on fresh, healthy, locally grown, raised and made food. This also means more dollars in local farmers pockets and more dollars circulating in our regional economy.
Marketumbrella.org, the sponsoring non-profit for the CCFM, is leading efforts to further increase SNAP sales at farmers markets with innovative programs like MarketMatch that encourage food stamp shoppers to purchase fresh, healthy, local food by meeting them halfway. Marketumbrella.org is a 501[c]3 nongovernmental organization based in New Orleans but operating globally to cultivate the field of public markets for public good. The organization utilizes its emblematic Crescent City Farmers Market as a platform for innovation, learning, and sharing with this growing field.
