Fresh Item of the Week

fresh item of the week

Each year we select a local food hero to feature on our wooden market tokens, which can be purchased with credit or debit cards at our welcome tent and used like cash with all of our CCFM vendors. Our 2012 market token honors beloved Cajun cook and author Eula Mae Doré (1929-2008). On Avery Island, her personal Garden of Eden, Doré cooked for several generations of the McIlhenny family, friends, visitors and employees of McIlhenny Company, the maker of Tabasco® sauce. Please join us, along with members of Doré's family and her extended Mcllhenny family, this Saturday at 10am to pay tribute to this champion of our regional cuisine. Read on for more details about Saturday's festivities.

Tuesday Market, May 22, 2012 | 9 am - 1 pm

Uptown New Orleans | 200 Broadway Street at the River

Crawfish, glorious crawfish... We love a good crawfish boil on a lazy Sunday afternoon. While trying to plan our most recent foray into this fun tradition, we realized that a crawfish boil is an incredibly local meal. When planning your next boil, think about sourcing your boil lagniappe locally. Fresh corn, artichokes, onions and smoked sausage can all be purchased at the CCFM. What else do you include in your boil? Join the conversation at our facebook page.

green plate special

We welcome Domenica back to the Green Plate Special this week. So far, each menu has left us saying “How are they possibly going to top this next week?” And yet they have time and time again. On the menu this week: hand-rolled fusilli pasta with spring pea and mint pesto, grilled pizzas with black drum baby greens and green garlic aioli, burrata mozzarella with fava bean salad, blueberry and Creole cream cheese cakes, and peach, blueberry, basil and mint aqua fresca.

Thursday Market, May 24, 2012 | 3 pm - 7 pm

Mid-City New Orleans | 3700 Orleans Avenue at the Bayou

Our Thursday market is bursting at the seams with delicious, ripe seasonal fruit - strawberries, blueberries, Chilton County peaches and plums. Think of all the amazing things you can do with this bounty of local fruit: fruit salads, smoothies, ice cream, cobblers and crumbles, pies and preserves. Speaking of preserves, we’ve got some exciting canning and preserving demos coming to the market in the next few months. Stay informed by “liking” our Crescent City Farmers Market facebook page.

Saturday Market, May 26, 2012 | 8 am - 12 noon

Downtown New Orleans | 700 Magazine Street at Girod

Join us this Saturday at 10am for the unveiling of our newest market token design, honoring self-taught cook and cookbook author Eula Mae Doré. We'll have free samples of Eula Mae’s Party Pecan Tarts for the crowd, mini bottles of Tabasco® for everyone who purchase tokens, and the award-winning cookbook Eula Mae’s Cajun Kitchen: Cooking Through the Seasons on Avery Island available for purchase. Click here for more details.

Recipe of the Week

This Saturday we'll have free samples of 2012 market token honoree Eula Mae Doré's Pecan Party Tarts, but if your mouth is watering for a sweet pecan treat right now, try this Creole Cream Cheese Pecan Pound Cake. You can get Creole cream cheese from any of our three dairy vendors (Progress Milk Barn, Mauthe Farm and Rocking R Dairy) at any of our three weekly markets.
