Tuesday Market, June 19, 2012 | 9 am - 1 pm

Uptown New Orleans | 200 Broadway Street at the River

We have hundreds and hundreds of tomatoes at our Tuesday market right now, and we couldn't be happier! Not only are tomatoes delicious and versatile, (think salads, sauces, salsa, jam, juice ...) they're also chock full of nutrients, antioxidants and vitamins. Check with our Tuesday produce vendors to learn more about all the different varieties of tomatoes available at the market right now.

green plate special

The Gerica family is back this week with more amazingly fresh Louisiana seafood. For Tuesday lunch they'll have crabmeat and spring mix salad, black drum with green beans and dirty rice, shrimp stew, lemonade to wash it all down, and snickerdoodles and white chocolate chip cookies. They'll also have stuffed crabs packaged to go, so you don't have to worry about dinner either!

Saturday Market, June 23, 2012 | 8 am - 12 noon

Downtown New Orleans | 700 Magazine Street at Girod

The Crescent City Farmers Market is one of 30 lucky U.S. farmers markets selected by Jarden Home Brands, maker of Ball Brand Fresh Preserving Products, to participate in their “Discover You CAN” canning education program. Join us for the first in a series of three summer preserving and canning demonstrations this Saturday from 9 to 11 am. Come learn how to make local fruit preserves and sample the fruits of our labor. Sign up to win a Ball “Canning Discovery” Kit by visiting the welcome tent at any of our three markets or sending an email to admin@marketumbrella.org with “canning” in the subject and your name and email address in the body. One entry per person, please. The winner will be announced Friday, June 22nd on our CCFM Facebook page. For more information on this summer's “Discover You CAN” canning educational series, visit our website.

Recipe of the Week

The week’s recipe for Cheesy Creole Tomato Pie comes from Emeril’s cookbook, Farm to Fork: Cooking Local, Cooking Fresh. Creole tomato season is in full gear, and we couldn't be more excited. If you want to make this with local tomatoes in non-Creole season, we’ve got you covered with locally grown greenhouse tomatoes at all three markets. This dish makes a great brunch appetizer or a delicious summer dinner.
