October is shaping up to be one very busy month at the Crescent City Farmers Market! This Saturday, we'll hold our monthly Marketeer event. Keep reading for more information. On Tuesday October 9th, celebrated cookbook author and stone-ground grits purveyor John Martin Taylor will offer samples of his grits, a favorite of restaurants like Herbsaint here in NOLA and Gramercy Tavern in NYC, and sign cookbooks. Wednesday, October 17th, CCFM staff will lead a cooking demo and book discussion at Keller Library for Teen Read Week. Thursday, October 25th, we'll celebrate Food Day at the market. And finally, Saturday, October 27th brings our annual kids Halloween celebration, Market Mash. Mark your calendars so you don't miss any of the fun!

Tuesday Market, October 2, 2012 | 9 am - 1 pm

Uptown New Orleans | 200 Broadway Street at the River

As summer goes out and fall comes in, we come to the intersection of the seasons' crops. Right we're seeing the last of the Creole tomatoes and the first of greens. Tables are piled high with sweet potatoes and mustard greens, next to baskets of bell peppers and green beans. Check out this week's recipe for Caldo Augustino, a delicious Islenos stew that features vegetables available at the market right now.

green plate special

This Tuesday we welcome Woody's Fish Tacos back to the Green Plate Special Tent with a special addition - Chef La of Fete, a farm-to-table catering business tailored to its clients' diet and lifestyle. They kick things off with: choice of blackened fish, sauteed shrimp, slow roasted pork or veggie black bean tacos, bean and rice, zucchini "spaghetti" with three herb pesto and Ryals goat feta, and blackened green beans with lemon vinaigrette.

Thursday Market, October 4, 2012 | 3 pm - 7 pm

Mid-City New Orleans | 3700 Orleans Avenue at the Bayou

October is American Cheese Month and we can think of no better way to celebrate than to enjoy the delicious local cheese Ryals Dairy has to offer. Visit our Thursday market (Tuesday and Saturday markets too) for everything from fresh cheve rolled in dried cranberries and walnuts for a delicious salad topper, to raw cow milk cheddar, perfect for a sophisticated grilled cheese. The word on the street is that St. James Cheese Company will make appearances (and bringing samples!) at Thursday markets in October. This is going to be one delicious month!

Saturday Market, October 6, 2012 | 8 am - 12 noon

Downtown New Orleans | 700 Magazine Street at Girod

Join us this Saturday for our monthly Marketeer kids event. This month we're learning about the history of victory gardens. Kids need not be registered Marketeers to participate in events, but those who do receive a birthday card worth $5 to spend at the CCFM during their birthday month. Registration forms are available at all of our three weekly markets.
