Brooklyn Brewery’s Mash visits CCFM

Brooklyn Brewery is bringing their Mash tour to New Orleans March 13-16 with an exciting line-up of parties and events. On Saturday, March 16 from 10am-noon, Brooklyn Brewery’s House Chef Andrew Gerson will be joining us at market for a cooking demo, showcasing fresh market products. Poppy Tooker will be on-hand signing copies of the Crescent City Cookbook, and her newest book, Madame Begue’s Recipes of Old New Orleans Creole Cookery. We will also have a beautiful St. Joseph’s Day display featuring produce and baked goods from market vendors and friends, as well as information about this unique culinary tradition. Pick of the Week: Celery

This week we visited Timmy Perrilloux’s farm in Montz, LA and were thrilled to see celery coming up in his fields! In addition to being part of the “holy trinity” of Cajun cooking, celery is a healthy addition to any soup, stew, salad, or dish. It is high in Vitamin A and calcium, and low in saturated fat and cholesterol. Look for celery in the coming weeks at market.

Tuesday’s Green Plate Special

The Ralph Brennan Group is certainly treating us this month, with a different landmark restaurant each week. This week we have Café b under the Green Plate Special tent with a crawfish feast, bringing us Louisiana crawfish and tomato bisque, and a delicious Louisiana crawfish pasta, with fresh market veggies and rice noodles. For dessert they will have a fresh strawberry jam tart!
