Giant stalks of sugarcane can be intimidating to the home chef. Follow this tutorial to learn how to cut, peel, and prepare sugarcane. Cut thin to use as a skewer or swizzle stick!

Sharpen your knife. Put some newspaper on the floor. To cut the sugarcane into several pieces (preferably two sections each), use the heel of the knife, hit firmly around the sugarcane as you rotate it. Stand a piece of the sugarcane on its end and cut downward to remove the skin. On a cutting board, cut the off the joints. Cut the sugarcane into small pieces. Sugarcane is now ready to eat. Store the leftover in the refrigerator for later use.
