Program Manager

Summary:

This staff person will serve as a full-time program manager for Market Umbrella working specifically on several grant-funded projects that address food access through farmers market prescriptions and Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program incentives. Market Umbrella is a 501c3 nonprofit corporation devoted to cultivating the field of public markets for public good.

Description:

This full-time position will carry out program implementation plans with Market Umbrella and its partners including; managing and conducting nutrition education to program participants, gathering qualitative and quantitative data, ensuring consistent use of evaluation protocols and program implementation methodologies, writing evaluation results for reporting to funders. This position will also assist in delivering program content onsite at the Crescent City Farmers Market and other sites such as the Ruth U. Fertel Clinic and Circle Foods Store.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree.
  • Knowledge of standard computer applications: including word processing, spreadsheet and database software.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively.
  • At least one year of experience managing other staff and volunteers.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in public health or related field.
  • Two years professional work experience in nutrition program education, qualitative and/or quantitative research and supervising data collection.
  • Experience working with priority low-income populations in health promotion programs is highly desirable.
  • Two years of experience managing staff and volunteers.
  • CITI certification.
  • Familiarity using SPSS, SAS, STATA or other statistical analysis software.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

65% Plan, manage and implement program activities related to the farmers market prescription and Market Match/Circle Match initiatives. Manage relationships with enrollment and redemption sites. Oversee enrollment process for participants in the programs, coordinate the delivery of education to priority populations, conduct focus groups, key informant interviews and surveys using standardized protocols. Supervise farmers market prescription coordinator, interns and graduate student assistants as needed.

15% Manage school groups and curriculum for Meet me at the Market. Book school field trips, special tours for groups, tastings, and develop curriculum. Provide additional curriculum ideas for program in cooking, growing, nutrition and economics. Ensure that school groups receive pre-market visit education, tastings, and take home produce.

10% Provide staff support and management to the Crescent City Farmers Market. Process transactions at the welcome tent and assist with market set-up and break-down. Conduct special outreach in and outside of market for vulnerable populations.

5% Develop evaluation reports based on findings from data collection. Work with Executive Director and other staff to create informative fact sheets and information for stakeholders.

5% Other duties as assigned relative to health education and promotion.
