Volunteer
People often ask how they can get involved with the Crescent City Farmers Market. By joining the White Hat Brigade, that's how! The White Hat Brigade is our army of volunteers, and we're always on the lookout for new recruits. If you share our love of local food and vibrant public spaces, we'd love to hear from you.
Our volunteers come from many walks of life: Market shoppers, dedicated foodies, students, professionals, chefs and restaurant staff, neighborhood activists and others who want to share their talents and time by helping marketumbrella.org strengthen and sustain the local food economy. Many volunteers have gone on to become full-fledged members of the marketumbrella.org staff.
Our White Hat Brigade volunteers work at the Tuesday and Saturday Markets, doling out information, wooden token currency and — most importantly — coffee at the Welcome Tent. We also dispatch volunteers to marketumbrella.org events around town, enlist their help with school and community events hosted by our Meet Me at the Market program. They also contribute to the policy decision-making process through our Market Management Teams and work on many other tasks vital to our effort to build a strong regional food community.
Why the name? The white hat is a nod to our restaurant partners who have been crucial to our success over the years. And we call it a brigade because every step of the way, our volunteers have been there to make sure we survive. If you think you have the right stuff to be one of our invaluable foot soldiers, tell us about it!
