Base Salary Starting at $50k/year
Benefits: 75% Employer paid Health, Dental, Vision, insurance, 100% paid Short Term Disability, Life, and Retirement (401K), as defined in the employee benefits policy.
Holiday: Market Umbrella employees receive 12 paid holidays, as outlined in the policy for holiday and time off.
Paid Time Off: Salaried employees are eligible to accrue time-off, at a rate of 1.5 days per month to total 18 days per calendar year, as outlined in the policy for holiday and time off.
Orientation: New employees will be required to attend an orientation with the Executive Director in which a Federal I-9 form is required according to the Immigration Reform and Control Act. Acceptable documentation of identification according to the I-9 form is required.
General Position Description
This full-time staff member is a hands-on manager of three year round outdoor farmers markets and will be responsible for implementing any market expansion. The Market Manager is responsible for CCFM operations, supervises market coordinators and market volunteers, and assists with the development and execution of outreach work to create a diverse community space. Markets occur on evenings and weekends, are held rain or shine, and setup and breakdown can involve repeated heavy lifting (40+ lbs.). Reliable transportation to access different markets in different locations, often with market supplies, is required.
Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
70% Manage and supervise operations for the Crescent City Farmers Market, including vendor onboarding, policy enforcement, market layouts, token system and MU program implementation.
- Ensures that the CCFM and its vendors operate in accordance with the rules and regulations as outlined by Market Umbrella. Tracks vendor non-compliance and issues warnings or refers issues to Director of Markets as appropriate.
- Working with the Director of Markets, recruits vendors, tracks and responds to vendor inquiries, and processes vendor applications.
- Coordinates market implementation plan including generating market layout map, confirming expected market vendor attendance, distributing vendor communication emails taking weather and other variables into consideration, and verifying CC/EBT machine, token and market supply preparation.
- Implements, refines, and codifies market processes and procedures.
- Manages market operations, including customer service, risk management, MU program management, and merchandise sales.
- Works with the Finance Department to reconcile market accounts and ensure that market financial systems are secure, accurate, and efficient.
- Manages inventory for merchandise, supplies, materials, and equipment, keeping par levels and coordinating and performing maintenance and repairs when necessary.
- Creates opportunities to diversify and increase market customer base through the promotion of MU programs and services, such as SNAP acceptance, Market Match, Marketeer Club, and Farmers Market Nutrition Program.
- Plans and executes market activities and events, including monthly Marketeer Club activities, live music, demonstrations/tastings, guest chefs, community partner tabling, book signings, etc.
- Creates and places signage throughout the market(s) to convey market rules, principals, programs, branding and wayfinding.
- Ensures high quality end of market reporting, closeouts, and data tracking and resolves any issues in a timely manner.
15% Grows the market community and contributes to consumer education through formal and informal outreach programs & activities.
- Manages day of CCFM social media. Assists Communications Specialist in development and implementation of annual marketing plan.
- Contributes to development of marketing and promotional materials including the weekly newsletter, flyers, posters, etc.
- Attends neighborhood organization meetings and other community events to promote markets and market programs.
- Plans and supervises volunteer activities including quarterly foot traffic counts, customer engagement surveys and neighborhood flyering and leaflet campaigns.
10% Directly supervises market coordinator(s) and ensures that their work meets accuracy and other expectations according to organizational policies, procedures, and performance levels.
- Directs and supervises on-site staff and volunteers on market days.
- Participates in the recruiting and hiring of Market Coordinators. Responsible for the training of new market staff and volunteers.
5% Performs other related duties as assigned.
An ideal candidate will have:
- At least two years experience operating public markets, food access, food service or food systems programming or other front facing, customer service role
- Two years of management experience in public market or similar setting
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google suite
- Flexible schedule availability, including evenings and weekends
- Attention to detail and high level of accuracy
Preferred skills:
- Agricultural experience - production, sales, etc.
- Spanish and/or Vietnamese conversational capacity
