Green Plate Special

Check out our weekly Green Plate Special at the Tuesday Market. Each month, we invite a local chef, or sometimes one of our very own market vendors, to be our chef-in-residence. These chefs dream up fresh, affordable plate lunches that showcase the local, seasonal ingredients available at our market. Meet a friend for lunch, or pick up dinner and take a night off from cooking. The city's top chefs shop at the market. Stop by and meet them at the Green Plate Special tent.

This month we welcome Surrey's Cafe to the GPS tent. Greg Surrey opened his small neighborhood café in 2001 on Magazine Street in the Lower Garden District, serving fresh squeezed organic juices, Central American-inspired dishes such as Huevos Rancheros and Migas, and traditional breakfast fare.

Surrey’s Café has blossomed through the years to become a perennial breakfast, brunch and lunch favorite. Today the kitchen is under the direction of Chef Adrian Schrauwen, and the menu has been expanded to offer a wide range of fresh Louisiana seafood, boudin and chaurice sausages, and locally grown organic produce.

According to Greg Surrey, partnering with the Crescent City Farmers Market was a natural choice because of his belief in our city and its residents. "It's a great source of pride for the Café that we order fresh Louisiana products as often as we can,” he adds.
