Longue Vue Gardens

Established as a family home in 1921 and opened as a nonprofit public garden in 1980, Longue Vue's mission is to preserve and share a legacy of design, community, and lifelong learning.

Longue Vue’s eight acres of gardens—along with its beautifully preserved residential interiors—were the masterwork of 20th-century landscape designer Ellen Biddle Shipman and home to civic and philanthropic visionaries Edith and Edgar Stern.

Today, Longue Vue continues to honor the legacies of Shipman and the Stern family as a space for personal growth, social progress, and communal healing through the beauty of nature.

We invite you to explore our grounds and reflect on the connection between nature and design—all within the exceptional serenity of a breathtaking estate and a remarkable record of 20th-century American society, politics, and arts.

You can also find Longue Vue at the Crescent City Farmers Market every third Thursday, where they share the beauty of their garden-grown produce and plants with the community, as well as information about the wonderful programs and events offered at Longue Vue.
