Market Umbrella is an independent nonprofit 501(c)(3), based in New Orleans, whose mission is to cultivate the power of farmers markets to drive economic and community health in the region. Market Umbrella has operated the Crescent City Farmers Markets (CCFM) since 1995.

Meet Joshua Bertucci, the owner and chief sharpener of Slicey McSlicer Knife Sharpening. Over the past 10 years, Joshua has honed his skills in sharpening, specializing in culinary blades. Today, Joshua’s sharpening skills are known across the city as he sharpens knives, scissors, and other various blades for both residential clients and some of the most well-known restaurant establishments in New Orleans. Joshua’s passion for sharpening started with marine life-saving equipment, which required the near-constant use of a work knife, and quickly expanded into other blades. There are few things as satisfying as effortlessly slicing through an onion or tomato in preparation for a great New Orleans meal — so don’t forget to bring your knives with you the next time you come to shop at the Tuesday or Thursday market!

The Crescent City Farmers Market operates weekly year-round throughout New Orleans. The CCFM hosts 70+ local small farmers, fishers, and food producers, and more than 150,000 shoppers annually.
